My name is Sharon, and I am a Systemic trained counsellor and supervisor with over a decade of experience. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, the NHS, privately and with the third sector. My journey through counselling has allowed me to gain lots of insight into many theories around counselling which can all tie in together, but I believe that the right way of working is finding what works for the client.
I work a lot in both bereavement and trauma, but like the variety of not specialising. I have done supervision for the last eight years both in groups and 1:1 and I believe that both aspects have their benefits. The key to effective supervision is allowing the counsellor to feel safe enough to share their difficulties with their client work but also to be recognised for their successes. Another important factor for me is self-care. We can often find ourselves so involved in wanting to be there for our clients that we forget to look after ourselves too.
It is important to take time for ourselves and that it is never considered as selfish. Taking a break or a breather to recharge or having a safe space to process emotions that may have been touched during sessions. I love the processes of sharing skills, knowledge and experience in a nurturing way and in turn, learning from my colleagues, clients and supervisees in return in the ever-changing journey that is life.
